How to Maintain Our Victory
Jesus Christ has already given us, believers a complete victory over the kingdom of darkness. We are not in a fight with the realm of darkness because Christ has already fought and won, and we inherited the victory.
“Therefore, put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, Ephesians 6:13-14.
The scripture above says that we should stand, not that we should fight. We defend our victory, not on the offensive, because the Lord Jesus has already fought the battle and won the victory.
The work of the believers on earth is to maintain the Lord’s victory. The Lord has already won the battle, and the believers are here to keep His victory.
The believer’s responsibility is not to overcome the devil, rather resist the devil who the Lord Jesus Christ already defeated. Believers should stand on the victory Jesus Christ made available by seeing themselves victorious from a position of victory and not the victim.
It is not about us fighting the devil but trusting in the Lord. It is not hoping we will win; we are already victorious because Jesus defeated the devil, and the devil can do nothing.
Five Steps On How to Maintain Our Victory
Knowledge of the Word of God.
“Now I commit you to God and to the Word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified” Acts 20:32.
The knowledge of God’s Word is the number one thing to maintain the victory Christ has given us. I am not talking about the mental assent (head knowledge). The knowledge I am referring to is revelation knowledge (insight) of the Word of God. We can not acquire knowledge through prayers, and there is no substitute for knowledge.
We cannot be in complete control of our life and territory if we are not informed of who we are in Christ; therefore, it is essential to study the Word. Satan is not in control; he has been defeated, but he takes advantage of our ignorance to weaken our victory in Christ.
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart Ephesians 4:18.
The Apostle Paul, by the Spirit, highlights the awful state of the non-Christian in the above text. Let’s read from the Amplified translation for further clarity: “Their moral understanding is darkened, and their reasoning is beclouded. [They are] alienated (estranged, self-banished) from the life of God [with no share in it; this is] because of the ignorance…” (AMPC).”
What a dreadful state for anyone to be in! If ignorance of God and His Word could put a man in such a state of hopelessness, hemmed in the domain of darkness, imagine then what the accurate knowledge of God would do!
Knowledge in this context isn’t scientific or mental, as I earlier said. Instead, it’s a special kind of knowledge: “Epignosis” (Greek). It refers to accurate, complete, and precise understanding of God; experiential learning of God, acquired through revelation and acquaintance.
After receiving salvation, yielding yourself to the ministry of the Word is crucial. Proverbs 11:9 declares, “… but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.” You already have an inheritance bequeathed to you in Christ, but through the knowledge of God, you’re able to take hold of what’s rightfully yours in Christ.
Yield yourself to knowledge. Have a voracious appetite for the Word. Those who don’t know the Word easily get overwhelmed by circumstances and defeated by life crises. But through the knowledge of God, grace and power over a situation (peace) are multiplied in your life
2 Peter 1:1-3.
I can imagine that the Lord’s concern for the believer is never the devil nor the society, but I think His absolute concern is the ignorance of so-called believers.
“my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.
Hosea 4:6.
Meditating on the Word.
Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
1 Timothy 4:15.
Meditation drives the Word into your spirit. It takes the Word from your mind into your spirit. In your mind, you can still reason out the Word of God; but when it gets to your spirit, it becomes real and personal to you. That Word may not have any scientific explanation, but you know that it is reality, and there is nothing that can take it from you.
Also, it is crucial to understand that meditation is what gives you Rhema. Rhema is the spoken Word of God. It is the “now” Word of God for your situation, and you receive it by meditating on the written Word, which is logos. Logos can produce results in you and deliver an inheritance to you, but it will not make you enjoy your heritage. The Word that changes things is Rhema. With Rhema, it changes the condition of your body. Another powerful result of meditation is that it will make you the Word! It is God’s purpose for giving us His Word so that we would become the Word.
As you practice meditating consistently on God’s Word, you find that you will begin to think, talk, and act like God. Your whole life will become a reflection of the Word. When this happens, it will be impossible for any sickness to remain in your body because the Word would have permeated your entire body system and taken charge of your being. Understand that the Word has the divine energy to affect everything about your life, including your physical body.
“For they (the Word) are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” Proverbs 4:22
There may be a situation in your body that you desire a change; find someplace where you can be alone and meditate on God’s Word. You may not feel like it, especially when your body tells you something different, but do it. The Word is sure to prevail over that situation and causes you to walk in victory always.
Meditation is thinking on the Word of God, giving it a deep thought, rolling the Word over and over in our heart and spirit, and through the process of meditation, revelation knowledge is born. Meditating on the Word moves the Word from head knowledge to our spirit, and from our spirit, it brings forth fruits. The Word is not likely to profit us unless it passes through meditation.
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8.
Praying in the Spirit.
Prayer is an essential aspect of who we are as Christians; it’s our priestly ministry to pray. Jesus said, “…men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1). Often, people go through difficulties in their lives and don’t know what to do. Not many know how to pray the right way. God told us to pray, not for the sake of praying, but because He plans to answer. Also, praying has some factors that would make our prayers more effective if clearly understood and applied.
“For he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands him; howbeit in the spirit, he speaks mysteries. 1 Corinthians 14:2.
When you pray in the Spirit, no one, including the devil, knows what you are saying, as you are speaking to God alone in mysteries. When you engage the Spirit in Prayer, He takes you into heaven’s frequency, enabling you to pray with precision the express will of God for that situation. The scripture says in 2 Corinthians 2:10-11 That the Holy Spirit Himself intercedes on your behalf because He the Holy Spirit knows all things.
When your spirit prays, you are praying out the will of God. So, you can be confident that your prayers are in the right direction. Praying in the Spirit keeps evil away from you; it makes you spiritually sensitive to your surroundings.
Praying in an unknown tongue is essential because when we pray in tongues, our spirit prays, and in that act, we are focused on God. Our mind would focus on what is needed and use our tongue to speak what is needed in-between the Prayer to avoid wandering around.
When we pray and be conscious of the Holy Spirit, we enable Him to come alive in us, in other words, filled with the Holy Spirit’s presence. It helps us come into the fullness of Spirit. Doing this makes us yield to the Holy Spirit to pray through us.
“Praying in the power of the Holy Spirit. Most time, we pray, and nothing happens because the words we speak are not inspired and communicated by the Holy Spirit’s power. We have to pray always by the Holy Spirit; the Words have to be energized, expressed, inspired, and anointed by the Holy Ghost. That is what makes the difference.
Speaking Wisdom.
“Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor the princes of this world, that come to naught: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 1 Corinthians 2:6-7.
Speaking wisdom is speaking the Word of God irrespective of what you might be going through, where you are boldly speaking the word of God over your life. It is wise to speak differently from the others in your environment; God’s Word is the wisdom of God. Every kingdom has its way of speaking, and we are of the heavenly kingdom; that is why our language needs to be different.
You speak faith and not fear; you communicate what you want to see and not what you are experiencing. Heaven and earth have different principles, they have another way of operation, and the bible makes it clear that we are of the heaven where God resides. That is why we need to speak His kind of language, which is His Word. Speaking Gods Words is speaking His speech, and that is the language Satan obeys. God’s word is wisdom. Jesus Christ defeated Satan with the words of the Father.
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, ”It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. ”If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: ” ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'” Jesus answered him, ”It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. ”All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, ”Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. Matthew 4:3-11.
Speaking wisdom is also known as positive confession. In 1 Timothy 6:13, Paul admonishing young Timothy said, “I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession…” The same Greek word “Homologia” which means “confession” is translated “profession.” It doesn’t mean admitting and declaring your sins; instead, it means speaking the same thing in agreement with God. A good confession is that statement that lines up with what God has already said in His Word; you agree with and declare what the Word says about you or your situation – despite pressure or opposition.
In the face of staggering oppositions, refuse to flinch or recoil. Maintain your faith-filled confession by declaring who you are according to the Word. There may be some trouble with your health, finances, or at your job; refuse to talk fear or unbelief. Very firmly, faithfully, and courageously speak the Word of God concerning such situations, and you’ll come out victorious.
“Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy,
Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. Isaiah 8:12.
Looking at the Unseen.
“For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NASB
I love how the Message Bible succinctly translates Paul’s charge to Corinth’s people in 2 Corinthians 4:17. It says, “These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us.” This great apostle wasn’t talking to the Christians in Corinth alone but to every child of God, and that includes you. As a child of God, you shouldn’t view situations from the ordinary standpoint, that is, with your natural senses. You must learn to see the invisible with the eyes of faith through God’s Word.
It doesn’t matter how unpleasant the situation is that you may have found yourself in; I want you to know it’s nothing compared to the testimonies that await you at the end of it all. In other words, even though that pain or challenging circumstance may have been there for a while, it only came to pass and will produce for you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. “How?” you may want to ask. It’s by you learning to behold the invisible.
Learn to shift your focus from your present condition or circumstances and keep your focus on the Word instead. There are more incredible victory and celebration that awaits you as you keep your gaze on Jesus, the Author, and Finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). See God doing great things in your life with your eyes of faith. Imagine yourself in health, prosperity, and victory at all times, as the Word has said concerning you.
