One day, while volunteering at a Church food shelf in North Minneapolis, I encountered a young lady who came into the food shelf to shop. I saw this young lady being selective with the produce kept on the shelf, and her action was making a mess around where she was. So, I politely told her to take everything home, and if she didn't want any of the items she picked, she could give them to her neighbors.
Walking away from this lady, I heard her say, home? Does he think I have a home? Those words from this lady touched me profoundly, and I walked back to her and apologized for not being sensitive. I then asked her what was happening with her life and if I could pray for her. With tears in her eyes, she said she was currently homeless, and on hearing it, I was moved to tears, which is not typical of me; I am not sure why that day, the word homelessness had a profound impact on me.
Love is the fulfillment of the fundamental law. It means if we love, we will treat others as we wish to be treated. After some weeks of deep thought on that experience, it gave birth to this "Love Your Neighbor As Yourself," a campaign to stop 'Hate' through the act of kindness. Now, we offer prayer and encouragement, helping shoppers load their groceries and handing out t-shirts with the message "Love Your Neighbor As Yourself" at food shelf locations.
Jesus' definition of neighbor in Luke 10:37 is not someone who lives next block from you or opposite you but someone you're kind to or kind to you, irrespective of location.
Friends, we gracefully welcome you to join the campaign and let's give back to our communities through the expression of Love. 'Hate ' in the heart of humans is the reason for Gun Violence, Child Abduction, Sex Trafficking, homicides, etc.
"Not doing anything in the presence of evil is evil itself."
