Transforming Marriage

Genesis 20:12. But indeed she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

The scripture above indicates that father Abraham was married to his half-sister. I believe this was a spiritual reflection on how we should relate to our spouses. God is a Spirit, and He relates to His duplicate Spirit inside of us because He made us as spiritual beings.

Genesis 1:27. And God made man in His image. In the image of God, He made him. He made both male and female.

Most of the time, God uses physical things to illustrate a message to us because of the physical body we are putting on. Yes, Abraham was married to his half-sister, so the scripture told us but flipped the coin to the spirit as God asks us to be spiritually minded.

Romans 8:6.  For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

God said husband and wife are one and not two in Genesis 2:24. Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

I believe it means they are from one source i.e they share the sa; God is their Father. In spirit, we are all God’s children, which is the real us. My wife is my sister, and I am her brother because we are born of the same father in the spirit.

John 3:6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Abraham never had any issues with his half-sister, being his wife. So naturally, you will hardly see a brother and sister born of the same parents from one DNA having significant problems that will break their relationship forever.

Siblings will always get along irrespective of their differences. I believe that is how God wants us to live with our spouses. It is working out well for me as I view my wife like my sister, and you know, naturally, I will not want to betray or stab my biological sister. So, I won’t even dare to betray or hurt my spiritual sister, my beloved wife.

I am not saying you should go and marry your biological sister. Not at all. I am just relating to the spiritual nature we have in Christ. The scripture reveals that we are made in God’s image and born of the spirit.

Walking in the Spirit

James 1:18. It was of His own will that He gave us birth [as His children] by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits of His creatures [a prime example of what He created to be set apart to Himself—sanctified, made holy for His divine purposes].

We are a spirit that lives in the body and has a soul; If we bring this understanding into our marriage relationship, it will help eliminate marital challenges for God being our Father.

1 John 3:1. Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

Abraham with his wife understood that God is their father, and they see themselves as siblings; this knowledge madekes them live peacefully in their marital life. Sarah was so respectful, full of obedience, and submissive to her brother, calling him my Lord.

1 Peter 3:6. As Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

As long spouses see themselves from different parents, even when the scripture has said both of them are one, they will keep having troubles. Genesis 2:24.  Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

The man and the woman become one when they are married. It means both of them no longer see themselves as different and they are one in union with God.

1 Corinthians 6:17. But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

Even in the world system, you hardly find children born of the same parents killing each other with knives, guns, or having unsettled fighting. Yet, suppose you have ever seen one. Then, it’s demonic, satanic, and not of God if it happens in your family.

Christianity is not a religion or a denomination; Christianity is a living thing; it’s living the father’s life here on earth. It is a living relationship with God in Christ Jesus.

Until you agree with your spiritual nature, believe in it, think it and live it, you will not fully access or benefit from the things in the spiritual realm.

Romans 8:6-10. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

BE RULED BY GOD’S WORD

In Romans 12:2, the bible says And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by renewing your mind that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God.

He says, be not conformed to this world because He doesn’t want us to think nor act like the rest of the world. He wants us to be different. So that’s why He says ‘be not to conform to this world but be transformed.’

Then He tells you how to have that transformation by renewing the mind. It means changing your way of thinking through the word of God. Let the word of God give you a new mindset. Let the word of God control your values, your ideas, your opinions, your choices. There are a lot of people who have their own opinions. They have their own set of values that are not governed by the word of God. But as God’s children, we are new creations in Christ Jesus. We belong in a different kingdom, God’s Kingdom, and the life that He’s given us to live is different from that known by the rest of the world. But if you are carnally minded, you will act and think like the world and get their result.

God wants us to be spiritually minded. He wants us to think like Him, like those in His Kingdom. So He says not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by renewing the mind. We need to renew our mind with the word of God and that is the only way we can think differently and in consonance with how God wants us to think; through His word. So if we study the word of God, we will have His way of thinking, His mindset. And we will see things from God’s perspective. That’s what He wants.

We will be free from marital torment when we allow God’s Word to rule our lives.
