We are an overcomer
John speaks to this idea that we are an overcomer. “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4.
We are of God, and our origin is in God; in order words, we the Christians are born of God. We need to note that the verse doesn’t say we shall overcome them; it means we have overcome them. It is not a promise; it is a statement of fact. We are not trying to overcome; we have overcome already. We are an Overcomer.
We also need to observe that it doesn’t say we have overcome them because we are healthy or very spiritual; no, we have overcome them because the One in us is higher than the one in the world.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, Colossians 1:13.
The natural human is under the dominion of the devil, and therefore it needs repentance.
Be aware of the overcoming life
When a man is born again, the life of Adam, which is subject to sin and death, is re-planted by the presence of Christ. This new man is reborn with a brand new life. He is an entirely new species of being that never existed before.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the original is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17.
In reality, the new creature has its origin in God. His life comes from God, and this life can never be defeated, destroyed, or brought down. That is what the Bible means in our first opening text where it says, You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4.
Walk-in God realm
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name, they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” Mark 16:17-18.
It is necessary to note that this is not a promise but a statement of truth revealing our true identity. In other words, by our new birth, we are no longer subject to diseases and infections. We now have within us the overcoming life of God, and any infirmity cannot bring down that life.
In the old covenant, God told the children of Isreal in Leviticus 17:11. “The life of the flesh is in the blood.” Their lives were subject to their blood running through their veins. However, the moment we are born again, the moment we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, our life no longer comes from our blood but from God and His Spirit dwelling in us.
“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[a] his Spirit who lives in you. Romans 8:11.
We ought to be conscious of this scriptures and live every day in the reality of who we are. We are no longer what we used to be. The life of God within us is higher than any defeat; it is superior to the devil, demons, and all kinds of disease.
