WHY WAS JESUS BORN?

Acts 26, verse 16: But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee.

What is purpose? Purpose is the original intent for which a thing was created or formed. A famous saying is that life remains meaningless when purpose is not discovered. A lot of people live very dull and uninspiring lives. They drift along in life, living without any sense of purpose. You were born for a purpose, and it’s vital to discover your purpose in life. God put you on earth for a reason, for a definite purpose.

You might want to ask, “So what’s my purpose? Why am I here?” To find the answers to these questions, you’ll first have to understand what the word “purpose” means. Purpose is an idea or aim kept in the mind as the goal towards which one’s efforts are directed. It’s a definite intention, the object or reason for which something exists.

Jesus was on earth for a specific purpose, and He wasn’t in doubt about that purpose. In John 10 verse 10. He established His goal: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” KJV. He knew He didn’t just come to the world to look around and die; His whole life pursued a purpose – to save and give life to all men.

In John 20 verse 21, the Lord said, “Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” Thus, this is now your purpose; you’ve been sent to reach all men with the gospel of life. The day you gave your heart to Christ, He gave you His kind of thinking and made you a savior just like Him: “And saviors shall come up on Mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the Lord’s” (Obadiah 1 verse 21). So, let your whole life pursue this purpose; be passionate about the enthronement of God’s Kingdom in the hearts of men and its expansion to the ends of the earth. That way, your life will take on a whole new meaning.

CHOSEN GENERATION

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light 1 Peter 2 verse 9.

Romans 8 verse 19 says, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” Then, in Matthew 5 verse 16, Jesus said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” This is your true purpose on earth. It’s your responsibility to make your light shine; you’re to make the personal decision and commitment to manifest the glory of God and be a blessing to your world.

It’s not enough to be passively preoccupied with the blessings and advantages that Christianity offers. You’re to be passionate about God’s work and see that His Kingdom is established in your home, street, place of work, school, and sphere of contact.

The life of Jesus while He walked this earth showed us a practical example of how to live as the light of God in our world today. His life was solely dedicated to fulfilling His God-given purpose and assignment. Throughout His earthly ministry, He left no one in doubt about His purpose on earth. He seized every opportunity to demonstrate the love of God to all people. He came that men may have life to the full (John 10 verse 10). This was the purpose for which He lived and died and was raised back to life. In John 4 verse 34, He said to His disciples, “…My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” He underlined the work of God as His consuming passion.

As a Christian, you’re an ambassador of Christ in this world, and you have a God-ordained purpose to illuminate your world with the light of God and be a blessing. This is your calling, and I urge you to take heed to this ministry you’ve received of the Lord, that you fulfill it. Colossians 4 verse17.

Why Was Jesus Born? Here are the reasons:

  1. Reason number 1: He came to reconcile us to the Father: 2 Corinthians 5 verses18 to‬19. All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.‬‬
  2. Reason number 2: He came to save us from sin: Matthew 1 verse 21. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” John 1 verse 29. The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
  3. Reason number 3: He came to redeem us from the law: Galatians 4 verses 4 to ‬5. But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.‬‬
  4. Reason number 4: He came to fulfill the law of Moses: Matthew 5 verse 17. Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
  5. Reason number 5: He came to be a mediator of a better covenant: Hebrews 8 verses 6 to 8. But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said: “The days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.
  6. Reason number 6: He came to seek and save the lost: Luke 19 verse 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
  7. Reason number 7: He came to bring us grace and truth: John 1 verse 17  For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
  8. Reason number 8: He came to pay for our sins: 1 John 2 verse 2  He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
  9. Reason number 9: He came to give us everlasting life: John 3 verse16  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
  10. Reason number 10: He came to free us from condemnation: Romans 8 verse 1. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, John 3 verse 17. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
  11. Reason number 11: He came to make the Holy Spirit available for us: Acts 2, verses 32 to ‬33. This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.‬‬
  12. Reason number 12: He came to provide the promise seed of Abraham: Genesis 22 verse18  In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

Galatians 3 verses 14 to‬16. In order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Brethren, I speak in terms of human relations: even though it is only a man’s covenant, yet when it has been ratified, no one sets it aside or adds conditions to it. Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ. ‬‬

Summary: He came to proclaim the GOOD NEWS: Luke 4:43. But he said, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.”
